Guilds

Within our Barony various people tend to flock with others who show interest and share in the same specialized skills, talents or thoughts. These groups are called Guilds and study very specific practices from medieval times. Various guilds form peerages of exemplary members who exude the core principals of that guild and are elevated to special status by the Kingdom.

Philosophers


Deals with philosophical thought up to and including the year 1650, CE; covering such trains of thought as the Ideal, Emperical, Conceptual, Metaphysical (with the exception of that which is deemed purely religious), Logical, Scientific and Physical. Accepting as valid any concept that is proven using the conceptual tools prior to the fore mentioned year.

Music Maximus


Previously called the Bedlam Boys Ceilidh (for men) and the Wench’s Society (for women), this group delves into the particulars of songs, poetry and other written works up to and including the year 1650, CE; as well as songs fitting into a “current middle ages” category. Additionally, this group provides courses concerning songs, poetry and other written and spoken works typically called “Bardic Practices”.

Brewers


This group is concerned with liquid refreshment of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic and helps to maintain the integrity of wet, dry and damp sites. Specializing in the Art of Brewing, this group teaches, provides judges for competitions, and educates the populace in safe, responsible drinking practices.

Wooden Spooon


Undertaking the study of cuisine, members of this guild participate in one of the fundamental arts and sciences of the Society. This group specializes in the preparation of food for feasts, lunches, wars, tourneys and special events like Twelfth Night and the Arts and Sciences Baronial. Members will redact period recipes and attempt to recreate period food by modern means.

Sappers


Specializing in and researching military engineering such as bridge or barrier building, field defences and general construction in relation to the time up to and including 1650, CE. Members of this group also concern themselves with Site Safety, ensuring the populace, fighters, and visitors are well managed without cause for injury.

Scribes


Concerned with the creation of documents in period methods including calligraphy, illuminations and verbiage, the Scribes are often called upon to create documents for awards and presentations.

Stitches in Time


The Art, Science and Craft of textiles and needlework is studied by this group – specializing in pre-17th Century tailoring techniques and skills. From sewing to embroidery, beading to weaving, spinning to dying. If a needle and thread are involved, so are members of this new guild. Periodically, the guild will create garb en masse and donate to the Gold Key. Also look for “Garb Days” where the guild will help new and old alike with their period garments.

Paradise Guild of Wandering Players


Studying both European and Asian forms of theatre up to and including the year 1650, CE. Covering but not restricted to such areas as plays, puppetry, juggling and improvisation, this group is concerned with the entertainment of the masses, particularly during faires and large, public gatherings.
